Operation: Exploration gives kids a glimpse of their future

“”Graduation from high school seems like a long time away for many fifth-graders at Northside Elementary School. To help them chart that path, dozens of students from the Logan High School Rotary Interact Club have been preparing their annual mentorship project to bring Northside students to the high school to get them excited about higher level education. The fifth-graders will travel to Logan High School tomorrow for an eye-opening afternoon of what possibilities their high school futures hold.

“It’s so important for our elementary students to be able to visualize themselves first as successful high school students and then as successful high school graduates,” said Northside principal Laura Huber. “Our fifth graders really appreciate the mentoring the older students provide. Having the opportunity for younger students to have such successful role models to connect with is extremely important for future success.”

About 70 Northside students, divided into small groups, will spend the afternoon discovering the opportunities high school offers. They will experience different classes, programs, and clubs at Logan High School. Along the way, they will be welcomed by and visit with Logan students and staff in classrooms, labs, art and music rooms, the cafeteria, and more to discover the fun, interesting, and unique experiences available during high school. The Rotary Interact Club members will also share their post high school plans with the fifth-graders.

“Our Interact Club is so excited to continue this tradition at Logan High School,” said Interact Club co-president Madeline Ickes. “We want to leave them with a positive impression that gives them hope for their future and some direction for their path forward.”””””[vc_gallery type=”flexslider_slide” interval=”0″ images=”15386,15388,15387,15389,15390,15391,15392,15394,15393,15397,15395,15396,15398,15401,15399,15400,15402,15403″ img_size=”625×417″]””
