“”In an effort to promote a variety of ways to enjoy books and to raise money for the school-wide service project, Nicaragua Compañeros, students at North Woods International celebrated the joys of reading with an all day Read-a-thon today.
The event this week coincided with Read Across America, celebrating the birthday and legacy of Dr. Seuss.
Children were encouraged to sign up sponsors to support their reading. The sponsors were asked to pledge a specific amount for an entire day of reading. The money raised will be used to help the community of Nuevo Santa Celia in Nicaragua.
This is the seventh year North Woods International has supported the project. During the previous Read-a-thons, students have raised over $4,000 each year. The North Woods International Read-a-thons have helped fund a new home, desks and school supplies, started a lending library, and helped to fund education workshops.
This year, students and staff hoped to help start up another lending library in a rural town in Nicaragua, as well as donating school supplies for students from Santa Celia.
The North Woods International students were joined by special guest readers including members of the Logan High School boys and girls basketball teams along with other community members.“”””[vc_gallery type=”flexslider_slide” interval=”0″ images=”11404,11405,11414,11406,11415,11409,11416,11410,11417,11411,11403,11412,11418,11413,11419,11402,11408″ img_size=”625×417″]””
