North Woods participates in Global School Play Day

“”Students at North Woods International School participated in the 2018 Global School Play Day.

The day celebrated the school’s Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), strengthened classroom communities, and supported the value of unstructured play.

*The philosophy of Global School Play Day is to have students participate in creative and interactive play,” said North Woods International School teacher Josh Hein. “It’s a great way to support responsive classrooms and to give kids a chance to be kids.”

North Woods students rotated through nine different outdoor winter Olympic-themed events. They were also active with indoor unstructured play with the focus being on non-electric toys and no screens. The sessions included all grade levels and lasted the entire day.

In 2015, a small group of six educators created Global School Play Day. On February 4, 2015, over 65,000 children participated in the first Global School Play Day after only four weeks of social media promotion from those six educators. Last year over 285,000 kids from 51 nations were registered by their teachers to participate in the event.
