“”Logan Middle School is a global village. The school’s students and staff focus on four aspects of global education: investigating the world, recognizing perspectives, communicating ideas, and taking action. This year, the school’s Global Education Committee planned an early release day activity revolving around each of those topics.
The Logan Middle School students voted on a single cause that they felt was something they could contribute to in a positive way. The students overwhelmingly chose to help the community’s homeless. Every student at Logan Middle School made a t-shirt fabric bag and filled it with toiletry and hygiene products. The bags will be donated to local organizations who help La Crosse’s homeless population.
“We are hoping that students will develop a greater awareness of the issue of homelessness in their community,” said Logan Middle School teacher and Global Education Committee member Jesse Martinez. “We also hope that the students will recognize their ability to help others in a meaningful way.”
“We’re making care packages for the homeless,” said Logan Middle School seventh-grader Alivia Kind. “It’s important for all of us to realize that there’s more to the world than just us. If we can help other people, no matter who they are, then we should help them.”
The school’s students created and packed over 400 bags during the day. Students also wrote messages of hope to include in the bags and to hang around the school. They also researched and discussed local statistics and the prevalence of homelessness in the La Crosse community.
“Sometimes people might be in a bad situation, maybe not because of something they did, and they need a little help and to know someone cares,” said Logan Middle School seventh-grader Kael Brandt. “This sets a positive example for all the kids in our school. We should be helping anyone who needs help and today we get to do that together as a whole school.”””””[vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z0n-VJhecI” align=”center”]””””[vc_gallery type=”flexslider_slide” interval=”0″ images=”11693,11695,11696,11688,11690,11699,11698,11691,11689,11692,11697,11694″ img_size=”625×417″]””
