“”The entire student body from Lincoln Middle School/SOTA II/Coulee Montessori along with teachers and staff joined together for a community service project this week. The project was part of the school’s Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program which reinforces respect, responsibility, and relationship building.
Working with the City of La Crosse’s Parks and Recreation Department, school officials identified zones in the Washburn neighborhood to be cleaned up. The students will be organized into groups and move through specific blocks in public spaces to pick up debris and loose trash. Students will leave tied-up bags of trash at designated areas for city crews to pick up.
“I think it’s important that the residents of the City of La Crosse understand that our students make a positive impact,” said Lincoln Middle School/SOTA II/Coulee Montessori Dean of Students Eric Check. “The students do a lot of work in the city because they take pride in the neighborhood where their school is and want to give back any way they can to the community that always supports them and their education.”
Students and staff met outside of Lincoln Middle School on the playground turf this morning and were organized into small groups. Group leaders were given safety vests along with gloves and bags for the team. The groups then moved to their assigned zones in the neighborhood around the school to begin the cleanup operation. When the cleanup ended, students and staff returned to school for an assembly celebration.
“Our students are demonstrating a greater concern for the renewal of this neighborhood,” said teacher Mandi Hundt. “Throughout the district are examples of our students’ interests in becoming civic-minded citizens. Their efforts are not only improving our schools every day but now our neighborhoods too.”””””[vc_gallery type=”flexslider_slide” interval=”0″ images=”11967,11968,11969,11970,11973,11974,11978,11975,11976,11972″ img_size=”625×417″]””
