“”Students at Hamilton Elementary School are using their creativity to make handmade Valentine’s Day cards for patients at Gundersen Health System and residents at area nursing homes.
Students are drawing, cutting, and gluing this week at school to help the staff from the Gundersen Service Excellence department surpass last year’s card total. In 2017, Gundersen Service Excellence staff, with the help of the UW-La Crosse Lions Club, collected and distributed over 2,400 cards.
“It’s another way we teach our students about the importance of being compassionate,” said Hamilton teacher Traci Schneider. “We try to help our students understand that an act of kindness, even something as simple as a homemade card, can not only change the day of a stranger but can help change the world.”
Students at all grade levels have been making cards, which will be collected next week and then given to patients and nursing home residents on Valentine’s Day.
“We all want Valentine’s Day cards, but for our patients, the cards are even more special,” said Sue La Crosse from Service Excellence at Gundersen Health System. “When they hear that a child has taken time to create a card and wish them a happy Valentine’s Day it immediately brightens their spirit.”””””[vc_gallery type=”flexslider_slide” interval=”0″ images=”13521,13510,13513,13511,13518,13512,13514,13515,13516,13517,13519,13520″ img_size=”625×417″]””
